2024 Scholarship Recipient Testimonials

Tori Carle

Waste Reduction Supervisor

City of Greensboro NC

"My time at WasteExpo was absolutely amazing! The sheer scale of the event and the solid waste and recycling industry it showcases was awe-inspiring. I gained so much valuable knowledge from the education sessions and had the opportunity to make connections with industry professionals from across North America. It was also fantastic to finally meet, face-to-face, with colleagues I regularly work with but rarely see in person... I am incredibly grateful for the Public Sector Scholarship, which made it possible for me to attend this incredible event! I sincerely hope I am able to attend again in the future!"

Thomas Szabo

Waste Programs Manager

City of Norwalk

"As a young professional that is planning to continue working in the solid waste industry, I could not speak more highly of the benefits of attending the WasteExpo... The conference exceeded my expectations and allowed me to gain valuable insight to bring back to the programs I manage. I was able to find a significant amount of relevant exhibitors that provide services or equipment related to my current role... The Public Sector Reception was a great opportunity to network with other industry professionals... I am looking forward to attending future WasteExpo events to continue to grow my knowledge."

Jon Schroeder

Sustainable Materials Management Specialist

Minnesota Technical Assistance Program

"...I got to make some great connections with like-minded industry peers, both in the public and private sectors, and even gleaned a little insight from some presentations that I can use in my full-time job at MnTAP. The Zero Waste training offered by Zero Waste USA was a great reminder to further my efforts in my job, and I thoroughly enjoyed the Reuse Trashion Show."

Victoria Hoffman

Solid Waste & Recycling Program Manager

 Beaufort County Government

"The scholarship was a transformative opportunity for me as a young female professional in the waste industry... The experience expanded my professional network, which has been beneficial as we take the initiative to bring new waste diversion methods to our area. The conference equipped me with tools and inspiration to bring fresh ideas into my role and to the residents of Beaufort County."
